It is exactly 30 years ago since the creation of Katsina State out of Kaduna State, and along with it was Akwa Ibom State from Cross River State in 1987, by the then Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida. To celebrate the anniversary, the twin States decided to hold a joint celebration where the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel, visited Katsina State for a lunch and cultural entertainment hosted in his honor at the Banquet Hall of the Muhammadu Buhari House, new Government House, Katsina. The event was also attended by other dignitaries such as HE Badaru Abubakar, the Executive Governor of Jigawa State.
As stated by Gov. Masari, the idea of joint celebration was proposed by Governor Emmanuel which was to foster a harmonious relationship between the two states so that both states can explore their potentials collectively for more enduring prosperity. The idea was also informed by the need to have a modest celebration because of the current economic challenges in the country.
Governor Udom Emmanuel on his part expressed gratitude to Governor Masari and the people of Katsina State for receiving him with great hospitality and further stated that he always regarded the people of Katsina State as the extension of his own people. “Nobody can determine where he is born in…” he said, “But wherever there is peaceful coexistence, definitely there will be progress”.
Different delicacies were served and dance troops from both States displayed cultural performances.
