The school which was popularly known as “Yar Bola”- a name sarcastically given to it by students and members of the community as a result of the level of decay it represented is now undergoing a total reconstruction. In an interview with the principal of GDSS Malumfashi, Nasir Ahmad, he lamented on the state of the school before the ongoing reconstruction that “even donkeys could not be kept in the environment because of the abysmal state it was in”. Most of the fences in the school had fallen or were about to fall, the front wall of the assembly hall had already fallen down and other parts of it were threatening to follow. Students conducted assembly and exams in the open, cold and exposed hall. The floors were muddy or sandy, depending on the mercy of rainfall. A staff of the school also lamented that you could come to your office and see condoms, cigarette butts, animal droppings and other rubbish waiting for you because there were no fences surrounding the school. People from neighboring communities automatically granted themselves right of way through the length and breadth of the school. The students became uncontrollable because of the proximity of their classes and their homes. In essence, in no sane clime will human beings be allowed to inhabit those spaces for good 24 hours. Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State has paid a working visit to the Islamic Development Bank in its headquarters in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. On the visit, Governor Masari led a state government delegation that included the State Commissioner of Finance, Alhaji Muntari AbdulKadir and the Special Adviser Budget, Alhaji Abdullahi Imam. Government Unity Secondary School (GUSS) Malumfashi is one of the oldest schools in Katsina that has produced many leaders and statesmen.
